Dong Van Plateau is located at an average altitude of 1000 - 1600m above sea level, in an area stretching across geographical 2.356km² 4 districts of Quan Ba, Yen Minh, Dong Van and Meo Vac, Ha Giang province. This is one of the distinctive limestone areas of the country, contains the typical hallmark of the development history of the earth's crust. Dong Van, which is 80% of exposed limestone, formed from the environmental conditions and stages of development vary over hundreds of millions of years.
Geological value According to a survey of scientists at the Academy of Sciences Geology and Mineral Resources, the Dong Van Plateau has undergone all the stages of development of the earth's crust, from Paleozoic, Mesozoic to Cenozoic with geological formations 13 have been split, including Chang Pung, Lut Xia, Si Ka, North Bun, Mia Le, Si Phai, Speed Tat Lung Nam, Bac Son, Dong Dang, Hong He, Song Constitution and Lan Pang, in which Chang Pung is the oldest formations dating back about 540 million years. To date, scientists have identified 139 expression in Dong Van Geological Heritage (DSDC) of all kinds, of which 15 DSDC international, 68 national and 56 local level. In sedimentary rocks have different age in Dong Van, the paleontologist has discovered fossils belonging lot 19 group: Hand roll, Coral bottom wall, Coral 4 rays, Lu floor, trilobites, Fish neck, middle, cone shell, conodonts, Chan ax, gastropods, Chan started, Animal moss form, crinoid, hard shells, crustacean stock, aquatic plants, algae and Chitinozoa neck. The paleontology fossils helped scientists a complete picture of the geological history of the development Dong Van Plateau region in particular and regional geology Vietnam northeast
